McGuirk Wrestling Territory: Week of 1/31/72-2/6/72

For the week ending February 6th, 1972: Mephisto and Muehler have the biggest feud in the territory, Bill Watts, Doctor X and the team of Billy Red Lyons & Tom Jones defend their respective titles & more!

Here's a look at the talent roster along with SPOT ratings and FEUD scores for the week.

Other wrestlers advertised for shows this week but not listed in the SPOT ratings: Chuck Bowman, Duke Myers, Jim Garvin (primarily working as Terry Garvin's manager), Tom Bradley and midget wrestlers Farmer Pete and Little Bruiser.

The lone newcomer this week was Billy Hamilton. I don't have much info on Hamilton; he came here from Gulf Coast. After he left here he went back to Gulf Coast and then worked for Gulas later in the year.

Gypsy Joe Rosario left the territory. He went to East Texas and would return here briefly later in the year. Rosario, who also wrestled as Pancho Rosario and Pancho Valdez, was sometimes billed as "The Cuban Undertaker".

The primary movers on the SPOT Ratings chart were Vic Muehler and Red McKim moving up and Ramon Torres and Bob Boyer moving down. In the case of McKim, he's wrestling on a part-time basis, so his SPOT Rating is subject to more week-to-week variance because of the smaller number of matches used to calculate his rating.

The feud between Mephisto and Muehler continues to heat up, with their FEUD Score increasing to a 48 (anything above a 40 is generally considered a "major feud"). Mephisto and Muehler main-evented Monroe this week (with Mephisto being disqualified in the third fall for "using an inflammable substance") and also faced one another in Baton Rouge and Chalmette.

The McGuirk/Watts Wrestling Almanac - Chapter 1 (1959 Q4)

Welcome to Chapter 1 of The McGuirk/Watts Wrestling Almanac, an in-depth data-driven look at the wrestling territory run by Leroy McGuirk (and later, Bill Watts) and most commonly known as Mid-South Wrestling (though that name was only used starting in Sep '79).

On the last Friday of every month, we will post a new Chapter, with each chapter covering a three-month period of time.

A few quick notes:
-A huge tip of the hat to http://www.midatlanticgateway.com as their "Almanac" section helped serve as inspiration for the entire Charting the Territories project.
-Unless otherwise noted (which is very rare), all of the information listed here is the result of my own personal research, even at the expense of duplicating information/research that was already out there.
-My focus is on the advertised lineups for wrestling events, not the results. As such, we generally will not be posting results for events, just what was advertised to take place.

A guide to SPOT Ratings and FEUD Scores...featuring Magnum T.A. and The Midnight Express

To coincide with my appearance on Episode 102 of the 6:05 Superpodcast discussing Charting the Territories, I've prepared a (not-so) brief primer to the statistics I have developed to quantify a wrestlers' role in a given territory at a given time, using data for Magnum T.A. and The Midnight Express in Mid-South Wrestling.
